University of Missouri softball coach Ehren Earleywine is looking forward to a strong year from the pitching staff.
Missouri fielded a very young softball team last year and most of the team returns this year. KBIA Sports Director Darren Hellwege has a long conversation with Missouri softball coach Ehren Earleywine about what he thinks could be a really good 2015 season for the team, highlighted by depth at the pitching position.
The team’s annual Black and Gold game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7 in Columbia. The team then hits the road for several weeks before its home opener on Wednesday, March 11, a double-header against Southeast Missouri State University.

The Missouri baseball team split up for the first three games of an inter-squad matchup this past weekend for their Fall World Series. The team, which was divided into a Black team and a Gold team, featured strong performances by sophomore Ryan Howard and senior Jake Ivory.
The first game, played on Wednesday, was powered by the long ball.
Both the Black and Gold teams used freshman starting pitchers, redshirt freshman Ryan Lee and true freshman Lake Dabney, respectively. Both pitched well, but Dabney made a couple of mistakes to Howard and Ivory, who each launched home runs to power a 3-2 victory by the black team.

The Missouri softball team continued its strong start to the fall season with wins over North Central Missouri College and Highland Community College on Friday at University Field.
The first game of the day came against North Central Missouri and the Tigers’ bats were firing on all cylinders from the first pitch.
Missouri scored two runs in the first inning and four in the second inning before absolutely exploding in the third inning with 10 more runs added.
The Tigers would ultimately take the game 24-4. Every position player batted in at least one run for the Tigers, who were led by infielder Natalie Fleming and outfielder Emily Crane offensively. Fleming knocked in seven runs while going 5-6. Crane went 5-7 with a double and a Read more of this post

Missouri defeated Louisiana State 3-1 Friday night at Walton Stadium to open Southeastern Conference play. Missouri never trailed and controlled possession throughout the game. Missouri (6-1-2) has won four consecutive matches,
scoring 11 goals during that span.
Junior Reagan Russell had two goals, and freshman Kaitlyn Clark scored her first collegiate goal to put Missouri ahead in the 60th minute. Clark also assisted Russell’s first goal. Missouri held a 21-8 shot advantage over LSU, boosted by a barrage of attempts early in the second half. After a scoreless first period, Missouri managed 12 shots after halftime. Three found the back of the net, and Missouri pushed its unbeaten streak to seven games.
Missouri continues SEC play when it faces South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina at 5 p.m.

The Missouri softball team began its fall season with a doubleheader against Crowder and Heartland Community College at University Field on Friday. The Tigers absolutely dominated all areas of the game as they beat Crowder 11-2 and Heartland 15-5.
Freshman Paige Lowary, who won Gatorade’s Softball Player of the Year in Iowa this past year, started the first game for the Tigers. She overpowered Crowder all afternoon, pitching five no-hit innings while striking out 10 batters. She walked two batters in the second inning, but quickly managed her way out of the jam.
Offensively, the Tigers were lead by catcher Sami Fagan, first baseman Kelsea Roth and utility player Natalie Fleming. Fagan and Fleming each had three runs batted in, while Roth lead the team with four. The Tigers had 11 hits to go with their 11 runs, including home runs from Roth and third baseman Alyssa Cousins.
The second game of the doubleheader provided similar results as the first. Sophomore pitcher Tori Finucane allowed one hit and no runs over five innings of work. Her strikeout total, while not as impressive as Lowary’s, was still solid at six.
The Tigers had offensive output by everyone in their second game. Nine Missouri players had at least one hit in the contest. The offense racked up 18 hits and had home runs from third baseman Amanda Sanchez and catcher Kirsten Mack.
The only struggling performer for Missouri was Cheyenne Baxter. Baxter pitched two innings, one in each game, and allowed all seven of the runs the Tigers allowed on the day. All seven runs were earned runs, but not detrimental to Missouri’s chances to win either game.
The Tigers will continue their fall season with another doubleheader against North Central Missouri College and Highland Community College on Friday, Sept. 26 at University Field at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.

Starting pitcher Casey Stangel has left the Missouri program.
COLUMBIA — Four Missouri softball players, including freshman starting pitcher Casey Stangel, are leaving the program, coach Ehren Earleywine said.
“I can confirm that Sarah Moore, Carlie Rose, Kelli Schkade and Casey Stangel are no longer members of our program,” he said in a statement released Wednesday. “We wish Sarah, Carlie, Kelly and Casey the best and thank them and their families for being a part of our program.”
The exact reasons for the four players’ transfers are not clear.
Stangel, a lefthander, posted a 15-10 record with a 3.27 ERA in her first season with the Tigers, including 14 complete games. Stangel was named MaxPreps’ player of the year her senior season for Lake City High School in Couer d’Alene, Idaho, after she compiled a .640 batting average and a perfect 28-0 record with a 0.73 ERA on the mound.
