The offense came around for both the Black and Gold teams in the second weekend of the Fall World Series in Columbia.

It was the Gold team that saw their bats wake up in the first game. They were powered by homeruns by Ryan Howard and Josh Lester. Howard’s homerun was his third of the fall, while Lester’s was his first.

The Gold team also got a solid pitching performance from Alec Rash.

After allowing two runs in the first, Rash converted 13 of the final 14 batters in to outs. He also struck out nine over seven innings of work and only allowed the two runs.

The solid pitching and big hits led to a 5-3 victory in the first matchup.

Offense was the major factor for the Black team in the third game of the weekend.

Six batters reached base with a base hit and Chris Akmon, Zach Levy, Jack Klages and Case Munson all had multi-hit games. Four batters had an RBI in the game as the Black team put up six runs.

They also received a great start from freshman Tanner Houck. Houck brought a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He went seven innings, struck out eight and allowed two runs.

The Black team struggled a little in relief, but would end up winning the game 6-4.

The Fall World Series will wrap up with a three game set on Wednesday, Oct. 22, Thursday, Oct. 23 and Friday, Oct. 24.
