In one of the more physical matches of the season, Alabama defeated Missouri 1-0
Sunday afternoon at Walton Stadium. The Crimson Tide and Tigers combined for 32
fouls in a back-and-forth contest. Alabama finally got on the scoreboard in the 84th
minute when forward Laura Lee Smith beat Missouri goalkeeper McKenzie
Sauerwein on a breakaway. Smith buried her shot inside the right post, and the
visitors were able to hold off the Tigers over the final six minutes.
Missouri honored its three seniors before the game. Sauerwein, midfielder Kaysie
Clark and forward Taylor Grant played their last afternoon game in front of their
home crowd. The Tigers fall to 10-4-2, and 5-3-0 in Southeastern Conference play,
while the Crimson Tide improves to 9-4-3 (4-2-2 SEC).
Missouri returns to action when it hits the road to take on Ole Miss Friday at 7 p.m.
