The Missouri Tigers defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Walton Stadium, completing a home weekend sweep.

The Tigers scored in the first minute and never looked back, outshooting the visitors 17-8. Missouri goalie McKenzie Sauerwein recorded her fifth shutout of the season, improving the Tigers’ record to 9-2-2 and 4-1-0 in Southeastern Conference play.

Missouri struck early thanks to some good fortune. After the opening kickoff, freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Clark sent a ball into the Vanderbilt box. Misosuri’s Allie Hess tapped it to the post, and teammate Reagan Russell put a shot on goal. The ball found its way between Commodore keeper Christiana Ogunsami’s legs, and the Tigers had a quick 1-0 lead.

Missouri gave itself some insurance early in the second half, knocking in another goal in the 57th minute. Clark received a pass from Hess and dribbled to the top of the box before blasting a shot through the Vanderbilt defense. Hess received an assist on both Tiger goals.

Missouri continues SEC play Friday when it takes on Auburn in Auburn, Alabama at 7 p.m.
