Saturday’s Missouri volleyball team did not look like the defending 2013 SEC Champions.

The Tigers lost to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 19-25, 11-25) in their third match of the Tiger Invitational. The team bounced back for the evening match but needed all five sets to beat Xavier 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 15-8).

In the first set against Oakland, the Tigers kept the score close in the beginning, but Oakland stretched the lead 15-10. From there, the Golden Grizzlies maintained a sizable lead, and the Tigers couldn’t catch up.

Missouri tied the match up in the second set, on .333 hitting with 20 kills. The Tigers did not dominate the set, with their biggest lead being four points. The two teams were again neck-to-neck in the third set; trading leads for most of the set until Oakland pulled away with the set win with a 7-1 run.

The Tigers played poorly in the fourth set, committing nine errors, including several double hits. The team’s hitting percentage was -.107, and trailed by as much as 14 points.
