SEC coaches pick Florida to win the conference this year

Mizzou picked to fall toward bottom of the pack

Birmingham, Alabama – Florida narrowly edged Texas A&M as the favorite to claim the 2014 Southeastern Conference women’s soccer title in voting by the league’s 14 head coaches. This marks the 16th time that Florida has been tabbed by the coaches to win the title. The results were announced in a media release today.

Missouri finished 8-9-3 overall in 2013, 4-4-3 in the SEC, and was picked to tie for ninth place with Ole Miss.

Florida returns 11 starters from last season while Texas A&M returns 10 starters.

There are 16 returning players on the roster, including seniors McKenzie Sauerwein, Kaysie Clark and Taylor Grant. Eight new players join the team.

The Tigers finished 14-7-1 (8-5-0) in 2012, their first year in the SEC, and 12-8-1 (3-5-0) in 2011, the last year in the Big 12 conference.

Missouri will play an exhibition match at North Carolina on Friday, Aug. 15 and opens the season the next week at the Penn State Invitational. The Tigers will face Syracuse on Friday, Aug. 22 and West Virginia on Sunday, Aug. 24. The team’s first home game will be on Sept. 5 against Northwestern.
