Several thousand fans showed up for the 12th annual Football Fan Appreciation Day Sunday at Memorial Stadium. Fans stood in long lines to get autographs from players and coaches.

The possibility of stormy weather lead officials to open the gates about 30 minutes early for the event, but also meant closing down 30 minutes early. Things heated up when the sun popped out during the event, causing fans like Cissy McElwee of Independence, Missouri, to seek relief. A couple of posters McElwee had pulled double-duty as she used them for autographs and to shade herself from the sun’s rays.

The Missouri season kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 30 against South Dakota State. Schedule kick-off time is 2:30 p.m. at Faurot Field.
