The good times continued for the No. 15 Missouri softball team (38-13) on Monday.
A day after the team took the rubber match 5-4 against No. 3 Florida in Gainesville, Fla., Tiger shortstop Corrin Genovese and Tiger pitcher Tori Finucane took home Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively.
Genovese batted .462 in the Tigers four games this past week and played an instrumental role in the series-clinching win over the Gators, knocking in four of Missouri’s runs via her first career grand slam.
Genovese is batting .404 this season, ranking second on the Tigers behind outfielder Taylor Gabdois (.420).
Finucane took two victories against Florida and one against Missouri State in her undefeated week. She gave up five earned runs and struck out 21 batters in 21 innings pitched.
Finucane’s work last week upped her record to 19-5 and allowed her to become the second Southeastern Conference pitcher to earn Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season.
While the Tigers seem to be peaking at the right time with five-straight SEC series wins and handing the Gators its first three-game series loss since March 28 through March 30, it won’t be long before they’re tested again.
Missouri will play a doubleheader Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at University Field in Columbia, Mo., against Creighton before squaring off with No. 7 Alabama for three games Thursday, May 1, 2014 to Saturday, May 3, 2014 at home to close out the regular season.
