By Erik Hall

COLUMBIA — Missouri freshman Jake Ring came to bat with one out and two on in the top of the seventh inning. Ring delivered with a single to right field that scored two runs to tie the game. An RBI sacrifice fly by Eric Anderson brought Ring in from third to give Missouri the lead.

Missouri added two more runs in the eighth inning to win 5-2 against Tennessee on the opening night of Southeastern Conference baseball.

Tiger’s starting pitcher Brett Graves threw seven innings and earned the win. He allowed two runs and seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Dylan Kelly led Missouri at the plate going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and one run.

The losing pitcher was Tennessee’s Peter Lenstrohm, who replaced starter Nick Williams at the beginning of the seventh inning. Lenstrohm allowed three runs in 1/3 of an inning.

Missouri improves to 9-7 overall, 1-0 in the SEC. No. 26 Tennessee drops to 15-2 overall.

The schedule for the remainder of the weekend was adjusted because of a forecast for bad weather Sunday. Missouri and Tennessee are now scheduled to play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
