The Missouri baseball team’s recent uptick now includes an individual accolade. Junior Keaton Steele was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, following a combined eight shutout innings over two game appearances. Steele stuck out 11 batters and walked just one over the course of his award-winning week.
Steele’s best performance came in the second game of Missouri’s doubleheader against South Carolina on Saturday. The right-hander came on in relief to pitch the final six innings of game and handcuffed the nation’s No. 5-ranked offense to three hits and no runs, while striking out seven batters and walking one. Missouri cruised to a 4-0 win, picking up its first SEC win behind Steele’s effort on the mound.
The Tigers enter the final week of their 11-game home stand on a 6-3 run. Missouri will wrap up the stand with a pair of games against Arkansas State (14-6) on Tuesday at Taylor Stadium, before hitting the road for the first time in nearly a month to take on Tennessee (10-9) in Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend.
Missouri was scheduled to play an additional four games on the home stand – three vs. Northwestern from March 1-3 and another vs. San Francisco on March 10 – but the games were canceled due to inclement weather.
