You could say the No. 6 Missouri wrestling team walked into the Hearnes Center as the favorite against Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville on senior night.
The assumption comes naturally. The last time the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars scored team points against Missouri was in 2000 with the Tigers holding a 19-4 all-time record over Wednesday’s opponent.
The dual marked more of the same with the No. 6 Tigers dominating the Cougars 43-3 with five of Missouri’s seven seniors in the starting lineup in front of 935 home fans.
Although, Missouri would lose grip on a shutout in the first contested match. Missouri’s Boomer Boyd, wrestling up a weight class from 125 pounds to 133 pounds, would lose 6-1 to SIU-Edwardsville’s Patrick Meyers. But from then on the Tigers would rattle off eight straight wins.
The Tigers did not wrestle starters Nathan McCormick and Drake Houdashelt at 133 and 149 pounds respectively.
Here are the full results (Missouri wrestler in bold):
125 – No. 4 Alan Waters win by forfeit
133 – Patrick Meyers 6-1 decision over Boomer Boyd
141 – Nicholas Hucke 10-2 major decision over Brandon Brindley
149 – Trevor Weist 25-9 technical fall over Logun Taylor
157 – No. 16 Kyle Bradley 13-4 major decision over Kyle Lowman
165 – No. 13 Zach Toal pins (2:25) Adam Osmoe
174 – No. 11 Todd Porter 17-5 major decision over Jake Residori
184 – No. 10 Mike Larson pins (6:59) Derek Nagel
197 – No. 11 Brent Haynes 17-2 technical fall over Deshoun White
