The wrestling programs at Missouri, Old Dominion and Northern Iowa have joined the Mid-American Conference.
The league announced Wednesday that all three schools have signed five-year agreements to become affiliate members.
Missouri’s wrestling program lost its valued affiliation with the Big 12 when the school jumped to the SEC. The Tigers and Northern Iowa will compete in this season’s MAC tournament before becoming full members starting in 2013-14. Old Dominion will join as a full wrestling member in 2013-14.
The move will give the MAC nine teams including current members Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Ohio. Central Michigan won its 11th consecutive MAC wrestling title in 2012. Kent State was the only MAC team ranked in the final top 25 wrestling poll of 2012.
The addition of Missouri, Northern Iowa and Old Dominion makes the MAC the nation’s third-largest league behind the Big Ten and the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association.
