Former Mizzou coach Stein returns to Illinois Central College

By The Associated Press and staff reports

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) – Former Missouri women’s basketball Coach Cindy Stein is back on the sidelines at the Illinois junior college where she starred 30 years ago.

The Peoria Journal Star reports that Stein was hired Tuesday to coach Illinois Central College. Stein left Missouri in 2010 after 12 years on the job when her contract was not renewed. Stein finished at Missouri with a record of 184-175.
She grew up in the Peoria area, where her mother and two siblings still live. Stein moved to Leawood, Kan., after leaving Mizzou and worked as radio and TV broadcaster the past year.

She replaces Steve Garber, who resigned in March after coaching the Cougars for nine seasons. Stein has previously coached at Division II Emporia State and also was an assistant at Central Michigan, Miami, Cincinnati and Illinois.
