Olympian Askren and five others to be inducted into Hall of Fame

By the Associated Press

Former Olympic wrestler Ben Askren leads a group of six athletes headed for the University of Missouri’s athletics hall of fame.

Askren was unbeaten as a junior and senior and won NCAA titles at 174 pounds in 2006 and 2007. The school called Askren, now a mixed martial arts fighter, “possibly the most dominant (Missouri) athlete in any sport ever.”

Others who will be honored at the Feb. 10 induction ceremony in Columbia are Don Chadwick, Tom Heckman, Max Scherzer, Russ Sloan and George Williams.

Chadwick and Sloan were two-way football players in the late 1950s under former coach Dan Devine. Heckman and Scherzer were Tiger baseball stars. And Williams was a basketball player in the 1920s who also competed in tennis and track.
