The focus on the Missouri defensive line last week was more on who was missing rather than who was playing.

Sophomore defensive end Aldon Smith missed Missouri’s 26-0 shutout of Colorado last Saturday while recovering from a fractured fibula, leaving defensive end Brad Madison to start in place of the former freshman All-American. But in Smith’s absence, it was the starter on the opposite side of the line — junior Jacquies Smith — who truly stepped up in his absence.

Jacquies finished the game with only four tackles, but two of them came behind the line of scrimmage and were supplemented by two pass breakups. On Monday, coach Gary Pinkel praised Jacquies and the defensive ends for their play against Colorado:

In addition, Pinkel praised defensive tackles Dominique Hamilton and Terrell Resonno, the latter of whom Pinkel said might have played the best game of his career against Colorado:
